    Abstract: This presentation will set out the eScience agenda by explaining the role that computer science can play in assisting scientists explore and manage the current data deluge. Jim Gray’s case for a “Fourth Paradigm” for data-intensive scientific exploration will also be highlighted. Examples of data intensive science will be used to illustrate the explosion of data and the associated new challenges for data capture, curation, analysis, and sharing. The growing importance of cloud computing, visualization tools, and semantics will be discussed
